Ministry: Russia’s wheat exports rise 11% since July 1

MOSCOW, Aug 31 (PRIME) -- Russia’s wheat exports have increased 11% on the year to more than 5 million tonnes as of Wednesday since the beginning of the current agricultural year on July 1, the Agriculture Ministry said in a statement late on Wednesday citing Minister Alexander Tkachyov.

“This year we will be able to cover a higher demand for food and fodder grain of the internal market fully and also ensure exports,” he said, adding that wheat exports have increased 11% since the beginning of the season and exceeded 5 million tonnes.

Deputy Minister Yevgeny Gromyko said that Russia is also working on promising grain export destinations in the Asia–Pacific region.

“In August, we shipped wheat to Venezuela. After negotiations with representatives of Bangladesh, we agreed on supplies of Russian food wheat amounting to up to 200,000 tonnes until December 2017. Shipping of the first batch is to happen in September 2017,” he said.

Previously, Tkachyov said that the 2017 wheat harvest will have a high demand at the world market and grain exports in the 2017–2018 agricultural year will exceed the previous season’s result of 35.5 million tonnes of grain, including 27.1 million tonnes of wheat.
